Club Huts and Accomodation


One of the constraints of using mountaineering club huts is that you are a member of the BMC or Mountaineering Scotland, previously MCofS.  This is necessary due to the requirement for 3rd Party Insurance.  Strawberry Cottage is insured separately and such membership is not a requirement for staying there.

Access by digital lock; the code will be notified not less than a week before arrival

The Cottage

The cottage is off the A82 on the same access road as the Glencoe Mountain Resort which is clearly signposted.
There is parking space for up to 5 cars outside the cottage.
The Glasgow -Fort William bus stops on request at the junction of the A82 and the resort access road
Accommodation: Two rooms up steep stairs with 4 beds each; one room downstairs with bunk bed; 10 beds in all; mattresses and pillows provided - bring sleeping bag 
Facilities: electric lighting & cooking; microwave; utensils provided; solid fuel fires in sitting room & kitchen; WC and shower; drying room; bike and ski storage
Charges £10.00 per person per night; £8.00 for members of clubs with reciprocal rights.
A booking deposit is required.

From end of public road at Braedownie continue past speed restriction signs and within about 90m turn L into driveway that leads into club’s private car park. Unlock gates to driveway using key supplied. From car park follow marked footpath to hut.

16 optimum on alpine-style sleeping platforms. Own sleeping mat and bag required

Electric lighting and cooking (electricity f.o.c.); all usual utensils provided; 2 microwave ovens; fridge; running water; water boiler; heating for the main room is provided by a wood burning stove N.B. solid fuel, e.g. coal, must not be used, wood for the stove can be found in the wood-chest just outside the hut; WC

Cottage

Access
(1) From the Allt a'Mhuillin car park at grid ref. 144763. Turn off the A82 at Torlundy, cross the railway bridge then turn immediately R on to the forestry road. Follow this road for about half a mile. The car park is on the L and is just after the L-hand bend in the road. A path leading to the hut leaves the car park.
(2) From Achintee by the Ben Nevis path (the 'tourist path') to Lochan Meall an t'Suidhe. Skirt the base of the Carn Dearg cliffs to reach the Allt a'Mhuillin
leading to the hut
Accommodation
24 places: 18 plus 6 reserved for SMC members in winter and 2 in summer.
Bookings for other clubs - maximum 8 per club in winter and 12 in summer; minimum 3 in
winter and 2 in summer.
Alpine style sleeping platforms with mattresses

lighting by both electricity and gas; cooking and heating by gas; crockery and utensils
provided; drying room; composting toilets; water from outside standpipe

(1) Bookings accepted only from member clubs or individual members of the MCofS and BMC.
(2) Bookings may be made no more than 1 year in advance, e.g. in Jan. 2015 for Jan. 2016.
(3) Bookings are based as follows: Weekends = Friday & Saturday nights, Weekdays = Sunday - Thursday.
(4) All bookings in winter (January - April) must be paid for in full with no refund. At all other times a non-refundable deposit equivalent to 50% of bed nights booked is required.
(5) No camping or fires allowed in the vicinity of the hut

By boat from Elgol or on foot from Sligachan via Glen Sligachan and Druin Hain, or from Strath Aird via the ‘Bad Step’. Boat transport from Elgol can be arranged with one of the tourist boats operating from the village all year round. See Glasgow JMCS website for further details

£10.00/person/night, minimum booking 2. A camping day charge of £1.00 applies only when the hut is fully booked. Minimum 25% deposit, full payment due 4 weeks before dates booked; loss of keys requires replacement of lock and all keys and this will be charged at actual cost. Booking availability calendar on website. e-mail booking preferred

Keys:  From hut custodian, normally posted 3-4 weeks in advance

No calls after 22:00 h, please. E-mail bookings preferred.
Heavy rain can cause rivers and burns to rise suddenly and make crossing difficult.
